How does e-RUPI work?

e-RUPI has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and the Ministry of Health and the National Health Authority (NHA).

Unlike other existing digital payments, e-RUPI is a prepaid e-voucher based on QR-code or SMS string. This code or SMS will be sent to the beneficiary’s mobile. Being prepaid, there is no need for any intermediary and the system will be completely secure.

Along with this, the private sector can also make employee welfare payments in the form of e-vouchers if they want.
